Alison Zimmer came into my life almost a year after having lower back surgery, and a little over 6 months after attempting to get back into yoga at another studio. Before taking her classes at Harmony Arts & Wellness Center in Huntington Beach, nothing had ever stuck with me. For me, I wasn't only looking for a way to strengthen my back, my body and overall health, but I was looking for a connection. Something to align my spiritual and physical well-being. I feel that I found this and have been able to embark upon an even greater journey of health and overall spiritual enlightenment because she was brought into my life.
Since beginning my journey at Harmony in January, I've been attending 2-3 times a week and my strength, and ability to hold and advance with the poses, have increased tremendously--I couldn't even do "knees, chest, chin" in February! And, now I'm chatarunga-ING (I know, it's not a word); doing full wheel, and tri-pod head stands! My back pain, insomnia, and stress levels have reduced immensely, and I now have the internal tools to aid me in countering any stress and/or pain I may encounter in my day-to-day life. Alison has a grounded nature to her which allows her to relate to and connect with varying types of personalities; this is perhaps why she IS such an amazing teacher! She innately attunes herself to each individual's personality and/or fitness level and seemingly develops a way of teaching that is specific to them instantaneously. It's amazing! She's so knowledgeable and mindful of her practice, yet has the ability to connect with people so that said knowledge is never intimidating. Her savasana is beyond AH-Mazing! Whilst I respect other instructors I've encountered before, and do not deny or underestimate any of their skills or knowledge, Alison's ability to guide you with her calming and knowing voice into the most serene state of relaxation, is unparalleled. No matter what state of mind I enter her class in, I leave calmer, stronger, healthier, and able to overcome whatever problems were weighing on me with a renewed sense of strength and vitality. On the contrary, while she is guiding you through the more difficult poses, she manages to push you to a limit you didn't think you could reach before, in a way that is firm yet gentle, and always supportive. She forces you to surprise yourself and realize you were underestimating yourself before. I'm inspired every week to push myself harder and grow stronger with her guidance. Moreover, I look forward to practicing with her every week; sharing that space and collective energy; and continuously being inspired by the light she radiates in everything she does. -Natalie Smith |
